Police chase ends with truck crashing into business in Ardmore, Pa.

LOWER MERION, Pa. (WPVI) -- A police pursuit ended early Wednesday when a truck crashed into a traffic signal and several businesses at the intersection of Lancaster and Ardmore avenues in Ardmore, leaving extensive property damage, according to authorities.

By daylight, much of the debris had been cleared, but damage remained visible.

The truck crashed through the front door and window of Nanu's Hot Chicken, which has since been boarded up and closed for repairs.

The crash occurred around 12:40 a.m. after Radnor Township police said officers attempted to stop the truck on Lancaster Avenue near the township border.

"It's a stolen registration plate and we're looking into all the circumstances," Superintendent Chris Flanagan said.

Investigators said the driver fled, prompting officers to follow the vehicle.

Video from the scene showed the truck losing control, striking a traffic light and sending the pole and signal equipment flying before crashing into the front of a restaurant.

The driver exited the truck as officers approached the crash scene.

The collision also damaged neighboring businesses.

Sheena Dickerson, owner of QueenStylista's Mane Artistry, said her salon's front wall was heavily damaged.

"Insanity. There was debris everywhere," Dickerson said. "The whole door and then the entire window all the way up."

Flanagan said authorities were grateful no one was hurt in the incident.

"Extremely thankful that no innocent people, or anyone, was hurt. We don't want our officers hurt, we don't want people violating the law hurt and we certainly don't want innocent people who have nothing to do with any of the above injured," Flanagan said.

As the investigation continued, business owners worked to board up damaged doors and windows, facing thousands of dollars in repairs.

"It could have been worse," said Imran Rashid, CEO of Nanu's Hot Chicken.

Rashid said the restaurant will remain closed while repairs are completed.

"I know it's a setback for Nanu's overall, but we're going to come back strong," he said.

Police said the suspect was treated and released from a hospital and remains in custody.

Authorities said he will face charges related to the vehicle and fleeing police.
